As the semester comes to an end, what I thought of this class is a lot different than actuality. I didn't expect it to be a lot of commitment to writing blogs; however, the class was very interesting. I have never taken an online class so it was a little different than a regular class which you go to, but it was more convenient. I enjoyed this class very much and it was interesting to learn about the history of pornography and throughout the years how it has changed and become more advanced; such as technologies affect on the industry. I was not aware that the pornography industry was very contentious and there was a lot of debate over it and it was good in a class which was so controversial that there was time to reflect and state your opinion.
For never taking an online class and not understanding how it worked at first, the lectures were very helpful and stated a lot of information. The lectures were very clear and informative. I thought though, at the beginning when I decided to join this class that it would be a little easier, but if you do your blogs and don't slack with those then you will get a good grade. I also never knew about blogging until this class and thought it would be difficult but now knowing how to blog it is very easy. I have to say that I did not expect this class to involve a lot of work, but minus this class not having tests and having to write papers, this class had a lot of work. If anyone needs an extra elective I would recommend this class next year.

Intellectual property is a product of the intellect that has commercial value, including copyrighted property such as literary or artistic works, and ideational property, such as patents, appellations of origin, business methods, and industrial processes. Huge parts of intellectual property are copyright, plagiarism, trademarks, and patents. These four things basically make up intellectual property. A patent is a grant made by a government that confers upon the creator of an invention the sole right to make, use, and sell that invention for a set period of time. Plagiarism is a huge deal nowadays, and is enforced very much through out high school and universities. There is not a law about plagiarism however; in schools if people are caught there is a possibility of expulsion. Trademark and copyright are more similar to each other, both have to do with getting a permit or approval to do something which somebody else either created or thought of first.
In my English class we did a lot on intellectual property law, copyright infringement and basically all four of those topics. Google, an enormous search engine, which makes so much money a year, was getting sued by publishers and authors for their new book search, which was putting books on their website, so people would not have to go out and by them.
These law topics come up in the pornography industry because people need to patent their items or movies so other people don’t steal them. It is a very competitive business. People need to put patents on their products so it is theirs and if someone else tries to steal it they can get in trouble. If people have really good trademarks on their products or whatever it is that is theirs, then people might remember it for having such a good trademark. Plagiarism comes into talk with pornography because if someone made a movie for instance and someone else makes a similar one or basically the same, then they can get in trouble for that. Copyright is also very important, because people need to put that on their things so no one else can steal it as well, and they can get credit for making whatever it is they made or created.

In the world today, different areas have different things. Depending on who is running the area and who lives there determine what people have in their surrounding region. In different communities there might be more sex shops than in certain other communities, such as like the city there might be more adult stores and adult places, than in a suburban area with children. It is smart to make it like that, so young children cannot be exposed, however if people want to see these things they can travel to those places. Las Vegas is another example; because prostitution is more accepted there then it is in other areas. If people want to live and be surrounded by those things then they have the opportunity to in places which have more of adult things; the same goes for people who don’t want to be surrounded by adult shops and sex stores. If it means that much to people than they can travel wherever they want to see or do whatever they want.
The internet though, is becoming very advanced nowadays. There are filters being created to try and stop the spread of pornography online, however it is the internet and is most likely public domain it does not get stopped.

Questions for you Mr. Lucas:
- Are there more straight pornographic models or gay pornographic models?
- Which is a bigger industry?

Boogies porn blog has a variety of sections such as porn, nudity, and celebrity news. It is an adult pornographer’s web journal. Many people try and expose themselves on there so people can see them and maybe want them in their pictures or movies even. There is stuff about different adult movies and erotica on this website also. On this website, many different people blog and talk with other people who blog on this website as well.
The blogs that they write are different than ours because in ours we are assigned to write specific things, although you can write about anything, and you can tell that we are writing about assigned things sometimes because we write in “lecture” so and so. These blogs are more personal and also maybe some of the people are interested in finding jobs. There is a feature also on their blogging, called the “you tube” which allows them to make videos and post them as blogs. Technology today is becoming very advanced, and has definitely increased the production and sales of pornography, and things that have to do with it.

Protecting our children is such a big concern in the world today, from so many things, drugs, alcohol, sex, pornography, etc. But how much of the world can really be child proofed? It’s like if you censor everything and child proof everything, they are bound to see it eventually and then go crazy with it potentially. Children which are locked up by their parents at a young age and have very strict parents tend to go wild when they get older, same thing kind of.
It’s said that different food and drink labels aren’t allowed in certain areas where there are more children than usual. Places and states are trying to protect children by doing so, because the internet is becoming a “playground” to children because they can search just about anything. It’s funny, years ago a “playground” was the obvious, outdoors things to go on and play games, now they consider a “playground” for children the internet. But if things were done with the labels and food than I’m sure that there will be something done to protect children from things on the internet.

In today’s times, things are very different. Children are learning new things earlier and becoming more involved earlier also. Like young boys and girls in middle school are beginning to give oral sex at a younger age. I know that when I was in middle school, kissing was the only thing we really did. Now a day it’s more normal for a younger child to have sex at an earlier age.
Times are a lot different now than when our parents were around. They were even getting married at a younger age. My parents got married at age 20. That is very young to be married and on your own. Also, a parent hitting their kids was not okay back then, but it was more likely to happen and no one do anything about it. Today, parents might get their children taken away by child services for beating their kids. Like also in school it was okay for a teacher to reprimand their students by hitting them or slapping them, now it is very immoral for a teacher to touch a student.
Over time parents are becoming more lenient also. When I was a freshman in high school, my boyfriend was a senior so my parents thought the age difference was very big, but as I got older it wasn’t as big of a deal. But back in the day that wouldn’t even be a big deal. Just goes to show, ideals change over time.

Zoning laws are specific zones which things are placed, like strategically placed in a certain area for whatever reasons. Porn shops, adult stores and movie theaters are placed in certain areas for a reason. They obviously would not be placed next to a school, nursery school, or even a church. They are located in very secluded areas if at all anywhere. Is it up to the city to decide whether or not they want these businesses in their area? It’s all a matter of opinion. If they are in a secluded area where children cannot see or get into then it shouldn’t really matter.
Restricting these places all together would be going against freedom in our country; however placing these businesses in a suburban area where there are families is not the best idea. However, in the city where they can be private should not be a big deal. Also if these businesses happen to be placed in a suburban area than they should look incognito to the world so that children and young adults cannot see what is inside.

Pornography on the internet is becoming a bigger problem every day. And everyday that it becomes a bigger problem online providers such as America Online work even harder to prevent internet pornography from increasing. It is scary to think that children can be exposed to pornography at the click of a button. There are restrictions but there are also ways around them. Should there be childproof locks on the internet? If they are possible then there should be because children being exposed to this it might leave them unclear of what is appropriate at their age. They might think that at age 10 it is ok to be having sex. Which it is obviously a matter of opinion, but that is kind of a young age to start.
There are many laws which try to prevent the exposure of pornography and other obscene material. Radio and television stations are not allowed to air obscene material at any time and also cannot air indecent material from 6 am and 10 am. These laws prevent young children from being able to see or hear what adults can listen or see. An example of the radio being censored is Howard Stern. There was a lot of controversy whether or not he should be on private or public radio. Finally, they came to a final decision; people have to pay XM radio to hear him speak on the radio. If it means that much to people to hear him then they pay otherwise it is a waste of money. He makes millions of dollars by the company SIRUS to do his talk show.

Technologies these days have become very advanced such as having the internet and a camera built into your phone. Of course there are your occasional weirdo’s who will take pictures with their hidden cell phone cameras, or even watch pornography on the internet on their phone. Like the sidekick has a big screen and you can use the internet so it is possible for people to watch porn on it. I feel that that is kind of pathetic (no offense) that people would have to do that in public and could not just wait till they get home or in private. Obviously the cameras on the phone and the internet usage on the phone were not designed for people to have portable pornography, but there’s nothing to do about it. If people are caught though there should be harsh consequences.
